Central of Coosa County Varsity Cougars Trounce Talladega for CES School Day Game

It was the annual Take Me Out to the Ballgame for the Central Elementary students and the Cougars did not disappoint. The students were cooled off with a couple of minutes of rain, but it did not dampen their spirits.

Central won big over Talladega 15-2 last Friday. Talladega were the first to get on the board in the first when D Curry hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. Central flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs on one hit to take the lead, 6-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a walk by Haven Williams that drove in two.

Central added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Jacob Stevens singled, and Stevens stole home, each scoring one run.

Central added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when an error scored one run, Williams singled, scoring one run, and Waylan Chapman drew a walk, scoring one run.

CJ Franklin earned the win for Central. The pitcher allowed zero hits and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking one. Stevens threw one inning of scoreless ball for Central in relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking one.

Javarious Wilson led Central with two hits in two at bats. Williams, Bryant Wickersham, Stevens, and Franklin each drove in one run for Central. Central had a strong eye at the plate, tallying 10 walks for the game. Ethan Cosby and Franklin led the team with two free passes each. Williams, Cosby, Wickersham, Chapman, Stevens, and Franklin each stole multiple bases for Central, with a total of 22 bases stolen in the game.

Central Elementary Celebrated with  32 CES Pageant Contestants This Year

Central Elementary School (CES) is one of the few schools in the area that continues to hold school pageant opportunities for their young ladies. This year there were 32 CES pageant contestants.  

Congratulations to Tiny Miss CES, Colin Ward; Tiny Miss CES Runner-Up, Caresa Smith; Tiny Miss CES People’s Choice, Caresa Smith; Little Miss CES, Ivy Robbins; Little Miss CES Runner-Up, Laney Boothe; Little Miss CES People’s Choice, Laney Boothe; Miss CES, Evianna White; Miss CES Runner-Up, Hadley Guy; and Miss CES People’s Choice, Hadley Guy.

Thank you to all of our young ladies and their families who participated in the pageant and helped raise funds for the robotics teams. The proceeds from the pageant will purchase new robot kits that are required for the upcoming competition year. Thank you to CES pageant director and robotics sponsor Meg Masters.

Central Elementary Presented a Christmas Program for Family and Friends

Family and friends of Central Elementary School were invited to the Central Elementary School Christmas program 

directed by Mr. Daryl Ingram before students were released for Christmas break this week.

 

Kindergarten through fifth grade classes each presented a Christmas jingle.

The kindergarten classes sang S-A-N-T-A and He'll Be Coming Down the Chimney, first graders performed Up On The House Top and Jingle Bells, second and third graders performed Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer and Jingle Bell Rock, fourth and fifth graders performed Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town and I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas. The program closed with everyone singing We Wish You A Merry Christmas. 

We hope everyone enjoys their Christmas break and we look forward to seeing the students Tuesday, January 6.

Master Builders Robotics Compete at First Lego League HCMS STEM Qualifier

The Coosa County Schools Master Builders Robotics Team competed in the HCMS STEM Qualifier on Saturday, December 6. The competition consisted of three components: Robot Game, Innovation Project, and Robot Design. During the Robot Game, the Master Builders competed head-to-head to complete missions with their robot to score points. They then presented their Innovation Project and Robot Design to a panel of judges.

 

The Master Builders won the Breakthrough Award for their hard work, problem solving skills, and encouragement to one another.

CES Kindergartners Enjoy Fall Field Trip to  Penton Farms

On Monday, November 3, Central Elementary kindergarten students went on their fall field trip to the Pumpkin Patch at Penton Farms in Verbena. Students were able to learn at the petting zoo, pumpkin patch, corn pits, and a learning barn.  Students also enjoyed the wagon ride to the pumpkin patch, which boosts 50 varieties of pumpkins. Thank you to kindergarten teachers Mrs. Alverson and Mrs. Simmons for organizing the fun and educational trip for our youngest students. Thank you also to the parents and grandparents who served as chaperones. Everyone said it was a fantastic trip and they are looking forward to more kindergarten field trips this year.
